Association of Member Nominated Trustees to launch
14 July, 2010
Forum for MNTs to discuss challenges of role
Independent trustee firm Pitmans Trustees is helping to launch an Association of Member Nominated Trustees (MNTs) and Directors (MNDs) to help MNT/Ds cope with the unique challenges they face in their duties.
Richard Butcher, managing director at Pitmans, who was voted ‘highly commended’ independent trustee at Engaged Investor’s recent Trustee Awards 2010, said there was a definite demand from MNT/Ds for a forum to discussing the challenges their positions entail and were looking for somewhere they could “share experience and ideas”.

“We work with MNT/Ds on a majority of our appointments and we are very supportive of their role as we believe that they create the intimate link between a pension scheme’s governance and its membership. As a result, we have decided to provide the initial impetus and logistical support to help launch an association for them,” he said.
He added, “Our role will be to help get the association off of the ground. After that it should be run by its members for its members.”
Pitmans intends to gauge how widespread the interest is within the MNT/D community and collect views on how the forum could work. The firm is planning to host a founding committee lunch in London with a limited number of MNT/Ds in September to discuss these points.
“We already have some delegates for that meeting but are looking for more,” Butcher said.
The firm is actively looking for feedback on the idea and prospective members. Interested parties are invited to get in touch with Pitmans via email on: jwillard@pitmanstrustees.com
